The models of deep learning are humongous in size. Real world applications however demand small model size, low response times and low computational power wattage. The topic of model compression is particularly relevant to space-based applications, as there is an evident need to reduce the size and complexity of neural networks for deployment in highly constrained extraterrestrial environments.
