Quantum mechanics is the area of science that deals with the behavior of light and matter on the atomic and subatomic level or scale. It tries to define and estimate the essential properties of atoms and molecules, and their associated constituents— protons, electrons, neutrons, and other more esoteric particles such as gluons and quarks. Those properties or characteristics involve the intercommunications of the particles with one another and with electro-magnetic radiation i.e. light, X-rays, or gamma rays.
