Photonics is a field of science which involves study related to Photons which are quantum unit of light. Photonics is the science of using light to generate light energy through photons, extract and transmit information. The word Photonics appeared around 1960, when the laser was invented by Theodore Maiman. The word Photonics is derived from the greek word 'Phos' which means light. Photonics in technology has varied applications in electronic goods, internet, medical instruments, remote sensing, infrared cameras, laser cutting machines etc.
