What are the uses of model compression?

by SMEBOOK (admin) · February 28, 2021

The goal of model compression is to achieve a model that is simplified from the original without significantly diminished accuracy. A simplified model is one that is reduced in size and/or latency from the original. Specifically, a size reduction means that the compressed model has fewer and/or smaller parameters and, thus, uses less RAM when run, which is desirable because it frees up memory for other parts of the application to use.
